Ken Buck v. Michael Bennet
It's all about the politics, especially during the time of elections. You constantly see and hear advertisements around you. Playing on your favorite radio station, or TV channel, as either commercials or just the daily scoop. Michael Bennet, and Ken Buck are both candidates for this years senate election. Michael Bennet was a Superintendent of Denver Public Schools who was appointed by Governor Ritter to fill the Colorado Senate seat, vacated by Ken Salazar in 2009. Now, Michael is running for the position he was appointed to. Ken Buck was elected as the Weld County Attorney in 2004 and since then has been a prosecutor of criminals.
The other day when I was driving to my art studio I turned on the radio, and the first thing I heard was an advertisement approved by Ken Buck saying, “We look for strength but we get weakness from Michael Bennet...” I started thinking about all the competition that is going on between each candidate, and/or political party. How the candidates, and/or political parties manipulate each others words, actions, and/or views to persuade voters not to vote for their opposing competitor. How do we know who to vote for if the truth is frequently being manipulated by bias opinions? How do we know if the media is informing us with the truth about Ken Buck or Michael Bennet?
Ken Buck on Issues
“Ken believes in the value of life and is opposed to abortion except to protect the life of the mother. Ken will oppose federal funding of abortion and will fight to protect the life of the unborn.”
In comparison Michael Bennet strongly disagrees. Michael Bennet believes that for a state to outlaw or severely restrict reproductive rights would be declared as unconstitutional. It would go against our right to privacy protected by the Fourteenth Amendment. Michael Bennet states, “Roe v. Wade was correctly decided – there is a constitutional right of privacy that encompasses decisions like whether to use contraception and whether to choose an abortion. Because the U.S. Constitution firmly protects an individual’s fundamental right to make her own choices with regard to her reproductive health, it would be unconstitutional for a state to outlaw or severely restrict reproductive rights.”
“We need to revamp the system so that we can ensure it is a safe, viable option for those wanting to migrate legally into our country.”
In comparison, Ken Buck and Michael Bennet do stand together in agreeing that our Immigration system is indeed broken. Michael Bennets approach to repairing our immigration system is that we need to: add additional border security resources, including technology and personnel, a visa worker program that is responsive to the needs of business and the economy, and a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants, especially for deserving undocumented students who were brought here as children. Ken Bucks approach to repairing the immigration system is to: secure the border, construct a program that will help make legal immigrants a feasible option, and to make illegal immigrants return to their country of origin to be able to enter the United States with respect to our laws.
“We must continue to depend on our traditional sources of energy – coal, oil and especially natural gas. It means we must aggressively expand energy production in our country, including stepping up drilling and looking to nuclear power as one of our best sources for non-carbon energy”
In comparison, Michael Bennet disagrees with Ken Buck. Michael Bennet states, “I support a comprehensive energy policy that makes a bold commitment to developing renewable energy, prioritizes conservation and efficiency, encourages the use of natural gas, and takes a balanced approach to responsible development of our traditional energy resources.” Michael Bennet believes that our investment in renewable energy has paid off, that renewable energy companies are creating jobs state wide. Ken Buck believes that the Cap and Trade bill is not the answer, that it will turn our already weakened economy upside down. Ken Buck states, “We can't meet our energy demands with windmills and solar panels and other alternatives in the near term. We may get to the point in the next decade or two, but we're not there today.” My question for Ken Buck is, when will we be “there”? How can we accomplish anything if we don't start now?
Michael Bennet on Issues
“We owe it to today’s families and to the next generation to find a fiscally responsible way to make quality health care affordable and accessible.”
In comparison, Ken Buck disagrees with Michael Bennet. Ken Buck believes that to let the market work, the people need to be responsible for their own insurance, to restore Americans' freedom, to decide for themselves whether they want insurance and how much insurance to buy.
“I believe that means we must attack our budget problems in two ways. First, we must do what is necessary to spark economic recovery. Second, we need to take a serious look at both the way we approach federal spending and at reducing the costs of programs already included in the federal budget.”
Michael Bennet believes that, “financial problems are only fixable when the parties involved are transparent about the extent of the problem, honest in their analysis of the size of their debt, and open to changes that will put the organization on sound fiscal footing.” Ken Buck strongly disagrees with Michael Bennet. Ken believes that to solve our budget problems we need to reduce the amount of Congress and Federal Government we have in our market system.
“I believe we hold our western heritage -- our land, water, and wildlife -- in trust for our children and that we have a moral obligation to manage our resources responsibly so that they can be enjoyed by the next generation.”
Ken Buck didn't specifically talk about Natural Heritage, he only connected it to his opinion on energy.
I would vote for candidate Michael Bennet because I strongly disagree with all of candidate Ken Bucks opinions, especially his opinion on abortion. Ken Buck states that he is passionate about addressing the problems facing Colorado's youth, and supporting victims. How can you support a victim of rape if you refuse to let her get an abortion?
Which candidate do you stand for? Do you agree with Ken Buck and Michael Bennet's answers to the issues?
This has good information, but I have a few questions. What are Michael Bennet's views on Abortion, Immigration, and Energy in comparison to Ken Buck's views? Just as well, what are Ken Bucks opinions on Health Care, Fiscal Responsibility, and Natural Heritage. I like where you were going with the questions about the media like "How do we know if the media is informing us with the truth about Ken Buck or Michael Bennet?". What led you to start questioning the truth of the information we get through the media? Most importantly, who would YOU vote for based on the candidates views?
